GuilinNormal College was, accredited by the Ministry of Education, established in2000. GNC is jointly administered by the provincial and municipal educationalauthorities. It was developed from Guilin Normal School, which was set up in1938 by the then provincial government and enjoyed a high prestige as one ofthe four renowned normal institutions nationwide because of its distinguishededucation achievement with its unique education mode and outstanding educationperformance. It has a glorious revolutionary tradition and is known as “thecradle of the revolution of northern Guangxi province”.
GNC has been graded as “Distinction” class by the Ministry of Education in thelevel assessment for the national higher vocational education programs of professionalstraining, and it has won various titles as the “National Advanced Institutionin Art Education”, the “Model School in Language Standardization Promotion” asone of the first group of schools to have been designated as models, and the“National Advanced Institution for Putonghua Training and Test”.
Presently GNC has two campuses, namely, Xinyi Campus and Jiashan Campus,covering an area of 430.30 mu with a floor construction area 179,500 squaremeters. A new campus, located in Lingui and covering an area of 890 mu(including the 760 mu which have been acquired through due procedures) is beingdeveloped and the first stage of the construction project was initiated at theend of 2015. Currently GNC has 9 faculties engaged in teaching courses ofprograms of various specialties and two departments engaged in teachingfundamental and general required courses, offering 45 programs (researchorientations) under 11 major categories of learning branches, with more than7,000 full-time undergraduates from 21 provinces (municipalities and autonomousregions) nationwide.
MaturedEducation Mode with Distinctive Features: with 80 years ofeducation experience and history, GNC features to uphold the motto “to promoteeducation by art as its tradition, using the art education as a platform topromote the holistic quality of students and to serve the local economy,culture and construction”. It is the first school at junior college level inGuangxi province to offer art program, and now is a key school in training ofthe art teachers for basic education and professionals in Guangxi province. GNCfocuses on the special programs of music and art for teaching qualification andeducation by employing the professionals training mode of overall arteducation, aiming to cultivate the students’ art quality and promote theirhumanism spirit.
RichEducation Resources: GNC is designated at the national levelto implement the training programs for teachers of middle schools andkindergartens, and is a key education base for teachers training at theprovincial level, a research base for methodologies of basic education, and atraining base for the heads of primary schools and kindergartens in Guangxiprovince. Since its foundation, GNC has cultivated and trained more than 90,000qualified teachers for basic education and various professionals. In Guilin,nearly 80% of the teachers of primary and middle schools and 70% of the headsof the schools are GNC graduates, and more than 100 alumni are now with thetitles of special-grade teachers or pace-setters in basic education researchwho have made their due contribution to the basic education and pre-schooleducation in Guangxi province.
Competentand Experienced Faculty Team: Currently, GNC has a workforce of575, including 385 full-time faculty members, among them 37 are professors, 129associated professors, the number of these faculty members with seniorprofessional titles accounts for 43.1%; 12 with doctorate degree, 11 now takingthe doctorate programs, and 239 having completed postgraduate programs orhaving been conferred master degree, accounting for 62.08% of the full-timefaculty members. GNC has 2 Teaching Masters honored by the provincial educationauthorities, 3 teaching teams ranked as provincial level, and 4 faculty memberschosen to be trained as the young backbone teachers for the institutions ofhigher learning in Guangxi province.
Ever-advancingEducation Research: In the recent years, GNC made tremendousprogress and big breakthrough in the research fields at the national level, aswell as in program curricula designs, textbook compilation, and training basesbuilding, etc. It now has two programs of the higher vocational institutionsfunded by the central government for the promotion of the specialized servicefor industrial development ability, 2 courses selected as the public superfineresources, 1 vocational educational training base funded by the centralgovernment, 4 textbooks compiled according to the national planning of the“Vocational Education of the 12th Five-year Plan”, 6 programs at thenational level sponsored by GNC itself, and 60 research programs having beenapproved by the provincial education authorities; GNC has 15 patents, including5 inventory patents. It has won 1 3rd award for Guangxi TechnologyAdvancement, 6 awards for Guangxi Teaching Achievement, and 4 awards forOutstanding Achievement of Guangxi Social Science Research. GNC is honored as“Model Unit of Teaching Reform and Management of Higher Institutions ofLearning in Guangxi” and “Model School of Education Research in Guangxi”. Itsacademic journal was appraised as “National Excellent Social Science Journal ofInstitutions of Higher Learning” by the 4th and 5throunds of appraisal panels, selected and designated by the State Administrationof the National Press and Publication, Radio, Film and Television to be one ofits first edition of the academic journals. The column Guangxi Dialect Researchhas been classified as “Characterized Column of the National Social ScienceJournals of Institutions of Higher Learning.”
OutstandingAchievement of Professional Training:
Theundergraduates of GNC have demonstrated excellent performance in the variousnational contests and matches as the National College Students’ MathematicsModeling Contest, the National Professional Skills Contest, the ChineseLanguage and Characters Contest, the Art Shows Exhibition of College Students,etc. Our graduates have made distinctive contribution to the society, which hasbeen highly acclaimed by the local government and the society. GNC has beenappraised as the “Model School of Guiding Graduates in Their Employment(Entrepreneurship) in Guangxi Province” for three consecutive years.
